Do you need an affordable plumber you can trust?
Look no further, here at Electricians-SA and Plumbers we have dedicated teams on standby ready to assist you with all your geyser repairs.
Common problems such as no hot water or even the water not heating up enough can be quickly fixed by our plumbers and electricians. Give us a call.
Our experience in geyser repair services ensures that you won’t be unhappy with our work.
What Can Cause You to Have No Hot Water?
- 1) No hot water from your geyser is usually caused by the element or thermostat being old or faulty. If the temperature of your water is warm or completely cold (not heating up) give us a call so that we can help you by inspecting your geyser problem to identify the cause and giving you a quote before we start any work. Our team stocks all the necessary parts for emergencies like this.
- 2) High water pressure may have caused the pressure control valve to leak. This is common where water cuts mess around with the water pressure. The valve installed may also be the incorrect KPA which will of course cause a malfunction and it may start leaking.
It is always best to call a plumber you can trust to come out and to inspect your geyser to find the cause of the problem and do the necessary geyser repairs or replace old or faulty geyser parts. - 3) Poor geyser installation can cause a range of problems such as low pressure pressure, water not heating up sufficiently or the water being too hot! We will check all the necessary components and pipes and give you a full report.
We aim to ensure that you always have access to hot water. Our electricians and plumbers are certified, experienced and friendly.
So give us a call, send us a WhatsApp or Email and we will phone you right back.
What are the Risks of not Fixing your Geyser?
When your geyser starts giving you problems – don’t leave it to fix itself. Geyser problems need to be fixed as soon as possible. By not repairing a faulty geyser, you expose yourself to one or more of the following:
- WATER DAMAGE: Water damage from a burst geyser or burst pipes to ceilings, walls, furniture etc. causes endless issues and may even become irreparable. The damaged items may have to replaced.
- FIRE HAZARDS: Fire hazards can be caused by electrical shorts if your geyser has not been properly installed. If the electric coil in an electric geyser has a high resistance due to electric faults, short circuits or over voltage – high currents may affect the plug or the plastic covering the wires. Any flammable materials such as paint or newspaper may catch alight.
- EXPLOSION: Pressure build-up caused by a faulty valve may result in a fatal explosion.
- GENERAL DAMAGE: Your geyser could need repair if there are constant interruptions to your electricity supply which can damage the electronic components.
When it comes to a geyser, make sure that it is installed or repaired professionally.
You need a qualified plumber who knows the regulations and is up to date with them.

Burst Geysers
When a geyser bursts or explodes, it can causes major damage and also cause serious harm. A leaking or burst geyser ruins ceilings, warps flooring and destroys cupboards, carpets, furniture, electronics and personal belongings. The best way to prevent a burst geyser is to conduct regular geyser maintenance. Seriously consider calling a plumber every year or so to inspect your hot water system. During the cold winter months your geyser and water pipes are placed under added pressure. We therefore recommend that you call us to conduct a plumbing inspection before winter sets in. If you're concerned that you're at risk of a burst geyser, give Electricians SA and Plumbers a call and we'll check it out at once!
What Causes a Geyser to Burst? - The 3 Main Reasons.
Although geysers are tough appliances, they can fail under extreme stress or corrode over time.
Our plumbers check these three major causes when we conduct our geyser inspection:
QUICK LINKS
Reason 1: Over Pressure
Reason 2: Sediment
Reason 3: Rust and Corrosion
Reason 1: Over Pressure
If the temperature in your geyser becomes too hot, the pressure inside the geyser rises with it.
Geysers are fitted with TP relief valves that monitor the temperature and pressure. When the heat and pressure inside a geyser builds, the valve opens to safely allow the water to be released through a drainage pipe. If this valve starts failing the geyser may burst and leak – or even explode!
How to Prevent Pressure Build-up:
- Make sure your geyser temperature isn’t set too high. 60°C is a comfortable temperature that won’t put your geyser at risk.
- Test your valves once or twice each year, to ensure that they’re in good working order. Again do this before the winter months. If you’re not sure how to do this or find it intimidating, call Electricians SA and Plumbers to check it for you.
Reason 2: Sediment
Over time, trace amounts of minerals (found in all water) settle at the bottom of the geyser and eventually form a layer of sediment. This sediment insulates the water from the heating element and now the element needs to heat the water for longer to heat the water. This in turn can either overheat the water, causing pressure build-up or cause the tank to deteriorate.
How to Prevent Sediment Build-up
Flush and drain your geyser every year or two years. This will prevent the build-up of sediment reaching a level where it can cause damage. If your water supply receives hard water, the minerals in the water are a lot more which of course increases the amount of sediment in your geyser.
Reason 3: Rust and Corrosion
When a steel or iron appliance comes into contact with water and air it becomes susceptible to rust.
An internal anode rod is installed to attract the rust and “save” the geyser. But once the rod has been rusted away, the geyser will start to rust. This can be seen when brown water comes out of your hot taps.
The geyser will become thinner and brittle with rust on the inside and now risks bursting.
How to Prevent Rust in Your Geyser
The anode rod needs to be inspected every two years and normally requires replacement every 5 years or so. Some insurances will cover the replacing of the anode rod.

What To Do Before Getting Your Burst Geyser Replaced.
QUICK LINKS
Step 1: Identify the Signs of a Burst Geyser
Step 2: Cut the Power
Step 3: Turn Off Your Water Supply
Step 4: Let the Hot Water Flow Out
Step 5: Contact a Reputable Plumbing Company
Step 1: Identify the Signs of a Burst Geyser
Identifying a burst geyser early will save you money in the long run.
The signs will include: low water pressure, no hot water, noises coming from the geyser, excessive dripping, water stains.
Once you know your geyser has burst, you need an emergency geyser replacement to prevent damage to your home.
Step 2: Cut the Power
The first thing to do is switch off the power on your geyser isolator switch. You will normally find this on your DB board and should be labelled GEYSER. If it has not been labelled, switch off your mains completely.
Step 3: Turn Off Your Water Supply
You need to switch off your water to the house / property to prevent water flooding into the system. This will stop the leaking water and stop more water damage. Go to the water mains and turn it off at the water meter. If you don’t know where your water meter is located, find out long before you need to use it. When a plumbing problem arises or when you need to have a fixture (like a tap) or geyser repaired or replaced – you can go straight to it and turn it off.
Step 4: Let the Hot Water Flow Out
By letting all the hot water flow out of your geyser you will bring the water pressure down. This also drops the amount of water leaking that will cause even more water damage. Turn on a few hot water taps in your home to speed up the process of draining your water pipes. Also turn on some of the cold taps because the geyser can also drain out of the cold taps too.
Step 5: Contact a Reputable Plumbing Company
Geyser replacements can get quite expensive. If an unqualified person replaces your geyser you may run into more expenses and even bigger plumbing and electrical problems. Our electricians and plumbers have years of expertise in geyser replacements – both electrical and solar. We are qualified and affordable.
By contacting a reputable plumbing company you get the expertise required and hassle free installation that will last you for many years. Our PIRB qualified and registered plumbers are well equipped to handle geyser assessments, maintenance, repairs and replacement installations. We adhere to the strictest industry standards on all our jobs – AND We Show Up! We are dedicated to customer satisfaction so that you get the very best plumbing service EVERY TIME!
Geyser Replacements
Once the faulty geyser has been disconnected we can replace it with either:
- An Electric Geyser, or
- A Solar Geyser (with electric backup)
We work efficiently and neatly. We perform an inspection and then inform you of whatever work needs to be done and how much it will cost before we get started.
You will always be kept in the loop.
Solar Geysers
All solar geysers heat your water during the day. While the sun is up, there is no need for the backup system.
When you need hot water at night or late afternoon, the solar panel/s will be unable to heat a new full tank of cold water and that is when the backup system kicks in.
An electric backup utilises an electric heating element. The backup can be either from the Eskom power grid, a backup generator or from a battery system.
We install solar geysers, inverters, battery backups, generators and even convert your existing electric geyser to a solar geyser. Speak to us about solar geyser installation and when you need a solar geyser with electric backup we will be ready to assist.
And Solar Geyser Repairs and Maintenance…
Yes, we do that too!

Geyser Installation Companies
There are many geyser installation companies and fly-by-night plumbers to choose from but few that will do the job correctly.
Plumbing fixtures need to be installed correctly. The industry standards of work apply for your safety as well as ensuring the proper functioning of any geyser. Incorrectly installing a geyser can cause a lot of damage!
Geysers need to be installed by professionals who have undergone training in installing and repairing geysers. Taking shortcuts to save time, money and parts often end up in dangerous installations being done. Geysers are delicate and need to be installed correctly – according to specific standards in order to function properly. Geysers also need to be properly earthed by a professional electrician.
Therefore Geyser installation companies that don’t take the time to install geysers correctly only end up causing a lot of damage and unnecessary come-backs. Electricians SA and Plumbers can in almost all cases, fix geysers for you or install them at very reasonable rates. We pride ourselves at prompt, professional and affordable service and our clients will attest to that.
Here at Electricians SA and Plumbers we install geysers, all day, every day for Residential and Commercial Customers. We install 50, 100, 150 and 200 litre Kwikot geysers inside the ceiling or mounted to a wall. We also install Kwikot solar geysers.
Replacing a burst geyser or fitting a new geyser can be a tricky task, especially if you are not trained in the relevant safety aspects of plumbing. We recommend that any work involving your water supply be carried out by an experienced and fully trained geyser specialist. These large, extremely heavy appliances need to be hoisted into your roof space or cavity and then care must be taken to install the relevant pipework and electrical supplies to enable full functionality which is both efficient and safe to use.
